Small Wonder

This sunny Chelsea studio and its sleeping loft are purr-fect for a cat owner

Searching for a New York City apartment with a furry friend in tow always adds an extra level of complication, even as an increasing number of buildings adopt pet-friendly policies. So this Chelsea studio loft—asking $639,000—immediately jumped out as a must-have for a buyer who's house-hunting with a feline friend.

The high ceilings and large windows (perfect for bird watching) create a spacious feeling and lots of natural light, though the sleeping loft looks like it might be a little cramped—you'll have to scope it out in person to see how comfortable it'd truly be. But with that high extra level and the custom staircase-shaped shelves leading up to it, this place is, perhaps unintentionally, set up to be any NYC cat's dream apartment. (What do cats love more than extra climbing options and perches, after all.) And yes, though it's a co-op, the listing notes that the building allows both cats and dogs.

In addition to the built-in shelving, there are four closets in the apartment, and both the kitchen and bathroom have nice, modern finishes, including Caesarstone countertops and Miele appliances. (And unlike a lot of Manhattan studios we've seen, there's plenty of room for a full-sized fridge, not some dorm-room style miniature).

The building also includes central laundry, a full-time super, a bike room, and extra storage, and unlike many co-ops, allows co-purchasing, guarantors, parents buying for children, and pied-a-terres. Whether you and your cat are buying on your own or living on the largesse of your parents, it may be time to snap this place up ASAP.
