Map: These neighborhoods have the biggest development booms in all 5 boroughs

By S. Jhoanna Robledo  | August 29, 2016 - 3:01PM

It's no mystery that New York City is in the midst of a massive transformation, with existing residential buildings undergoing makeovers and new buildings rising—or in some cases, being added onto existing ones— in nearly every single neighborhood. The current development frenzy has been underway for years, and shows little sign of ceasing, even with the current uncertainty over the fate of the 421a tax break.

But which zip codes are seeing more activity than usual? We used data gathered by NYC's Department of Buildings to find out where the most permits were issued (from January 2015 to year-to-date) for residential and mixed-use developments in each of the five boroughs. We also had real estate analytics site NeighborhoodX pull stats on prices for new developments as they compare to other properties in the area—their full report is here. (In some cases, we include data on existing properties on the market.)

Data in hand, we mapped the neighborhoods with the biggest building booms in their respective boroughs, from Chinatown to Bushwick to embattled Breezy point. Start exploring below (or click here):
