The Stuyvesant Town complexes -- set in an 80-acre private park -- really are a little village within downtown Manhattan, and this $5,378 three-bedroom at 15 Stuyvesant Oval has access to basketball, volleyball courts, tennis courts and more.

Pros: Stuyvesant Town apartments tend to be spacious. And the community offers social events, a seasonal greenmarket, live music and movies and much more.

Cons: The buildings -- located east of First Avenue, between 14th and 23rd Street -- are a bit of a hike from the subway. Also, some people might not like the somewhat institutional feel of the buildings. Also keep in mind that the photo above is expertly staged and the apartment available probably doesn't look much like that--and there's just one bathroom in this 3-bedroom apartment.
