Like Mayor Bloomberg, we weren’t able to attend the Mayor’s news conference yesterday detailing the city's plan to fight bed bugs.

But according to the NY Times, the money quote (besides the one about the city repurposing $500,000 to create an online bed bug portal and appoint a dedicated bed bug staff) was uttered by City Councilwoman Gale Brewer:

“[Mayor Bloomberg] told me, ‘Gale, all my friends have bedbugs; what am I going to do?’”

It’s a good thing for New Yorkers that Mayor Bloomberg has a personal connection to the problem. We just hope $500,000 (less than the cost of the average one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan) is enough to make a difference.
